RANDOM GAME OF THE DAY:
Mystic Heroes (2002)
Developer: Koei Co., Ltd.
Platform: PlayStation 2
Purchase Date: 2004
You can easily combine melee and magic attacks to score a high amount of combo.
It's easy to have this game mistaken for another Dynasty Warriors game. Well, I would be lying if I say that it isn't. Mystic Heroes is like the cute version of a Dynasty Warriors game. The gameplay is a lot faster even though it is still very repetitive - you are still killing a lot of enemies per stage even though at a much reduced amount. Instead of rehashing the historical storyline found in Dynasty, this game features a swords and sorcery setting. Because of this, you get to fight monstrous bosses and these encounters are both rewarding and exciting - there is no better way to end a long stage. You can customized runes for your character that will allow you to execute varied magical attacks and these are a lot of fun to use. Basically, hitting an enemy will charge up your magic meter and using the special attacks depletes that meter. The button mashing has a nicer flow here. Frankly, I would rather have Koei release more games for the Mystic series instead of the Dynasty series because the former is a lot more imaginative and it seems like they had more fun making this game. The characters found here are a lot more expressive than the wooden historical figures in Dynasty.
