The most ridiculously overpowered super bomb in the game belongs to ???.
Sometimes, the most hideous cover arts hide the best of games and this is definitely true when it comes to Mobile Light Force 2. The misguided Charlie's Angels on acid inspired cover art was actually the same exact cover art used for the original Mobile Light Force for the PlayStation. Talk about being cheap. I never picked up the first one when it first hit the market but it is now available on the PlayStation Network Store so I will be buying that soon because it is actually a badly packaged version of Gunbird by Psikyo. How publisher XS Games was able to obtain the licenses to release these games here is probably the most mysterious aspect of this whole thing. Just like the first game, Mobile Light Force 2 is actually not Mobile Light Force 2. I know, it's confusing but you can only blame XS Games for that. This game actually contains Shikigami no Shiro by Alfa System and once you go pass the horrible title screen, XS Games didn't even bother to change the original game's title in Japanese on the menu. Shiki is one of the best Japanese shoot-'em-ups where staying close to enemy bullets becomes something of a must. The closer you are to the bullets, the stronger your shots become and the higher your score multiplier will be. The fact that this is a high caliber title makes this whole packaging even more abusive but at the end of the day, I of course am thankful that the game is able to make it to North America even in this sad form. If you think the cover art is bad, wait until you read some of the things printed on the back:
"Each Level Has a Tougher Enemy Foe" - Oh really?!
"Highest Score Defeats the Enemy" - What the!?
"Take Survival Into Your Control" - How?!
RATING: 4 out of 5
