RANDOM GAME OF THE DAY:

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 (2002)
Developer: Electronic Arts Inc.
Platform: PlayStation 2
Purchase Date: 10/17/2002

In hot pursit of the number 1 spot.

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 is my number one favorite game in the entire Need for Speed catalogue. The game has everything that I love about the series perfectly combined - fancy cars, overwhelming sense of speed, out of this world race tracks, and a highly polished presentation. The lengthy courses are beautiful to look at because they are varied and filled with unexpected details. Even today, the graphics here are still gorgeous: sure the resolution is low and the textures get a bit muddy but everything comes alive thanks to the imaginative quality of the entire visual design. To flaunt the flawless graphics engine, you can even press a button to pause the action as your screen moves forward to reveal the long road ahead of you - this is not only used for visual kicks but it becomes an essential thing to do to discover shortcuts and sudden nasty turns, especially when you first play the game. There is a police pursuit element in the game where you have to escape capture. If you want to, you can also be the cop trying to stop your speeding targets but I prefer being chased. This game should become the reference point for all of the future Need for Speed games. Electronic Arts need to stop with the "open world" design that seems to plague almost every single game that comes out recently and go back to their arcade gameplay roots.
