Games Played 12/31/2008

RANDOM GAME OF THE DAY:

.hack//Infection (2002)
Developer: CyberConnect2
Platform: PlayStation 2
Purchase Date: 02/15/2003

Treated like a true noob at the beginning of the game, just like the real deal.

This clever role playing game is a faux massively-multiplayer online rpg. Confused? It's a game within a game where you play a character who plays an MMORPG. The majority of the game is a success when it comes to providing the player with the basic MMO experience: from the access to the logging screen and the community message boards, to the email interactions with friends who also play the MMO. The battle system is fun and your A.I. team members even chat with you while you are adventuring with them and yes, they even use smiley faces! Less successful however are the lengthy cut-scenes and the cinematic angles during real time story expositions - these things really take away the illusion of you are playing an MMO. However, after my experience with the real thing over the last several years, I rather be playing this game any day of the week.
