RANDOM GAME OF THE DAY:

Panzer Dragoon Orta (2003)
Developer: Smilebit
Platform: X-Box
Purchase Date: 01/15/2003

The most beautiful stage in the game.

Thank goodness Sega didn't mess up this series when Orta, the fourth Panzer Dragoon game, arrived on the X-Box. The game is kept as a rail-based shooter with the ability to turn the dragon 360 degrees to face incoming enemies. Though Orta is the best looking of all four games, it is unfortunately the least successful in terms of its storyline. The cut scenes found here are just too long, making the whole thing less mysterious and less somber than the first two. There is just no way a shooter could present the story-depth of Panzer Dragoon Saga, the third entry and the only role playing variation in the series, and they shouldn't have attempted to make things too elaborate here. Still, the action stays true to the classic formula with a new twist in the form of the dragon's ability to switch forms on the fly to accommodate the battle situation. Sega, please do not turn this into a free roaming shooter on the next sequel...
