Einhänder is the most exciting departure from the usual for the role playing game mogul formerly known as Squaresoft. Though the game is hardly epic compared to other shoot-'em-ups, Square managed to make everything work. They avoided making things unnecessarily complicated - thank goodness there are no rpg elements found within. The power-ups are weapons carried by the enemies and the player can choose from several different ships. Some of the bosses are spectacular but there are several uninspired levels in the game. It's too bad that Square is just a little too focused on making rpgs instead of taking the time to perfect the gameplay mechanics explored here.
