Gundam Battle Assault 2 is a a graphically clever 1-on-1 fighting game that features smooth 2D characters on top of 3D backgrounds without heavily taxing the console's RAM. The game's large characters are made from independently rotatable sprites that are attached to each other. The effects of this method are quite stunning in motion. Sadly, the fighting itself is nothing spectacular. The techniques between some of the Gundams are a bit too similar to each other and there are consistent slowdowns when a lot of things are happening on screen. It is still a very unique game that separates itself from other 2D fighting games with its bold visual style. There are a lot of characters to choose from as well, which should attract fans of the anime.
