January 2009 Monthly Gaming Analysis

The results shown below are of course based on the combined data from the Daily Game Log which should provide a clear indication of a game's usage frequency. Bear in mind that even if a game is played twice or more during a particular day, it would still register as 1 in the Day Count column below. In a sense, "merits" are given based on how often a particular game can make me play it again throughout the entire period of the month on a daily basis. A game that makes a gamer play it over and over again or at least spend a lot of time with it... Isn't that what we mostly want from a great game? I don't think it's really fair to count all the way down to the number of hours played since some games only require a short amount of time to properly serve their purposes.

OVERALL BREAKDOWN:

Total Games Played: 68

It's a new year but my gaming habit is still the same: I pretty much play whatever game I feel in the mood of playing. Ikaruga is back on the top of the charts as the most played game last month. Though the frequency of play for it decreased, the amount of euphoria experienced during play was still at an all time high. Though I am in the Top 100 on the Leaderboards, many other players are getting better scores at a constant pace so unless I keep playing the game, I may find myself being slipped out of this elite list. Still, I am very proud of my accomplishments. Very few can claim the prestige of being a great Ikaruga player and I am happy to be one of them.

After the release of the patch in late December that fixed Castle Crashers' game-breaking glitches, a couple of my Live friends finally purchased it and this lead to the game's repeated use. For the first time since its purchase, I finally was able to complete the game with the help of a friend. Castle Crashers is just one of those online games that are just impossible to play with random people when all you wanted is to focus on getting to the end while having a good time along the way. One of my characters is now at level 60 and I want to get him up to level 99.

As much as I tried to get my mind off Culdcept Saga, I keep finding myself playing it over and over and over again. The reason why I wanted to get away from it for a while was because my desire to play the game online ended up in frustration and disappointment. Even now, I always find myself in a room with two or more people who know each other and 95% of the time, they would help each other to screw me over. I still haven't found a close friend who likes this game as much as I do. Finding one is seemingly as complex and difficult as finding a compatible life companion. These things take time I am sure so I just have to suffer through these waves of pain until I can find myself that fun and respectful Culdcept partner(s).

Best New Game of the Month:
Sonic Unleashed (X-Box 360)*
*Believe it or not, it is playable. More to come when I finish the game.

Unexpectedly Forgotten New Game of the Month:
Valkyria Chronicles (PlayStation 3)

I Missed You I Want You Game of the Month:
Ultimate Shooting Collection (Nintendo Wii)
