RANDOM GAME OF THE DAY:

Technic Beat (2004)
Developer: Arika
Platform: PlayStation 2
Purchase Date: 2004

You can't stop the beat... So get ready to move on to the next circle!

Japanese developers just love making complex and satisfyingly substantial music/rhythm-action games compared to what can be found in the likes of Rock Band or Guitar Heroes. In Technic Beat, you control a character around a small stage, positioning him/her/it on top of beat circles and then hitting the square button to match the beat of the music. These circles can be picked up and linked to other rapidly emerging circles to create chains. The coolest feature in the game is that it enables the player to remix the music while playing it by altering the placement of the character or by adjusting the pitch on the fly by using the right analogue stick. Arika uses a lot of revamped tunes from classic Namco games that should be familiar to those who have played these games in the past. A fun, brilliant music game that requires you to literally and constantly think on your feet. It's very rewarding to master.
