Olé! It's Only OLED!

The console cycles don't make any sense anymore. They haven't been since the PlayStation 3 era. First and third party developers don't even utilize the technology that's available to them before they introduce newer, supposedly more powerful consoles, only to run the same ugly, rudimentary games that don't require the newer tech all over again. Well, Nintendo. I may not have been a big fan of yours ever since you abandoned the Wii U so very quickly before its time, but I do commend you for not adding to the cycle madness with today's announcement of your new Switch variant... The OLED model.

Why play on your 4K OLED big screen when you can play in handheld mode, right?

Crushing the dreams of Nintendorks all over the world - they really want that Pro unit: I know, I know, the console-only and specific console-only crowds have completely lost their minds at this point - Nintendo instead opted for a screen refresher release, something that they have done many a times with their handhelds in the past. Yes, I know this will still fly off the shelves faster than a XSX/PS5 restock when it comes out this October with 70% of the sales coming from those who already own the console, but seriously this is such a redundant update because of the Nintendo Switch's hybrid nature. Since the release of the Switch in 2017, I have never seen anyone play this console out in public. Definitely not at the parks nor the basketball courts... And no, never at rooftop parties as suggested by that hokey reveal video for the console's launch. And if you are playing at home, why would you do so in handheld mode with all the horrible performance that comes with it? I really love that Nintendo is making fun of the PlayStation 5 with this release though. Notice the familiar color scheme? Nintendo is saying, Hey PlayStashits, you have to wait for the Pro release anyway since you won't be getting a PS5 for at least another year so why not buy this instead? And you know non-gamer moms and dads will be convinced that they are looking at a sideways PS5 when they see that white dock with the black Switch sandwiched in the middle while they are out hunting for a PS5 for the kids. Oh those poor, crying kids. Nicely played, Nintendo.
