Living the 2024 Gamer Strat

After you have been on this planet for a while, the whole "New Year" thing doesn't seem that exciting anymore, or is it just me? The arrival of a new year just signifies a closer proximity towards the end of all existence to us as individuals. It's a scary thing, isn't it? The fact that we know not about the availability of existence before we get here, and now that we are experiencing it, we dread the fact that we will return to that state. Oh, don't get too depressed: there's always video gaming! Well, the new year is off to a mediocre start for me. For one, I thought that my love life was going to get really exciting but that had fizzled out as quickly as it presented itself to me. Still, there is much to celebrate with this new year cycle. With the ever-expanding Game Library, I have recently stepped on the brakes hard on getting new games. I didn't accumulate as many titles during the recent Christmas season compared to previous years because, well, I am all caught up pretty much and two, I also want to live that gamer millionaire life by truly enjoying the things that are already here. I have also come up with a game accumulation management strategy that I had been developing for the past couple of months and so far, I have benefited from its positive effects!

The key to my salvation.

Looking at my Game Library spreadsheet, it's obvious that I have gotten many duplicate personal computer games digitally, thanks to free giveaways from Good Old Games and Amazon Prime, but mostly from the Epic Games Store. Duplicate copies via multiple game download services don't make much sense and because of this, whenever a PC game I am interested in is available on Epic Games, I am now wish-listing it there. Usually, I would have the game wish-listed on Steam. By doing this, I can place these Epic Games titles on a lower priority list due to their potential to become free games eventually. Sure, many a times Epic would just offer games previously available on other PC platform for free during their introductory period, so this is not a foolproof plan. I believe that Epic is doing great things to PC gaming - the nonstop free games and the cashback programs are unmatched - so on top of lessening the chances of me having duplicate games in the future, I also get to support them as well by marking these games on Epic Games.

New table pad for a new year.

On the actual gaming side of things, you know that I have always struggled to focus my attention on anything other than Heroes of the Storm for the PC, but I have started playing The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim again and I am so into it at the moment... until a couple of days ago that is, the fact I am currently back on the HotS binge. But yes, I plan to continue the journey as soon as possible. I am really feeling this playthrough attempt though. The "Survival" mode introduced in the Anniversary Edition is great because I love that fast travel is out of the picture. Fast travel takes away the immersion in any game, just like how Starfield's dependence on that feature destroyed the game for me. I am playing a dual-wield, tanky orc this time around and as fun as that sounds in theory, this game is not friendly to a melee character, at least at my current level. So, despite a bit of trepidation, this year is not that bad so far. I hope that the year started off great for you. I hope that more gaming goodness, wisdom, and a bit of romance are waiting for me in 2024.
