Sure, the Point system offered on Steam is cute and fun. But what it's missing is real monetary value. Of course the Steamoroids will always find something wrong with any other digital distribution platform on the Personal Computer, but Epic Games is once again showing us that they can be a step more advanced than Valve's digital storefront. Today, they introduced the Epic Rewards program alongside their month-long Mega Sale a.k.a. we really, really want you to spend money event - and I have seen some truly incredible discounts!
Until Steam introduces a competitive rewards system, Epic Games Store will always have the advantage when it comes to monetary value because everything you buy here, as long as the price is the same on Steam, will always nab you some extra cash that you would otherwise never see ever again. While there is something similar on Ubisoft Connect, Epic's handling is superior because it's just basic cashback versus accumulation of units that would then translate into some uncertain potential discounts. The existence of EGS has proven to be important in the PC gaming ecosystem, especially the fact that other non-Steam platforms have shown nothing but complacencies, on top of the lack of title diversities. Epic Games have also shown more character and professionalism compared to Valve, like the brilliant way they accrue gamer reviews (90% of Steam reviews are infested by memes amongst other nonsensical things from what I have seen) and their openly direct stance against the Russian invasion of Ukraine (Valve's Dota 2 statement was rather pathetic). EGS continues to improve at a steady pace but I only have one complaint: stop stalling on the profile customization feature!
